Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Ranked #2 in Nation, Anesthesiology Specialty Ranked #1
From Johns Hopkins Medicine
We are pleased to announce that U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine #2 in the nation on its 2019–2020 list of the best research-oriented medical schools. The School of Medicine has consistently earned one of the top spots in this assessment, and this year’s ranking is another well-deserved achievement.
We are very proud of this recognition. Since our beginnings more than a century ago, the faculty and staff at Johns Hopkins have endeavored to offer the best possible training to the next generation of physicians and physician-scientists. The rankings released today are a testament to the daily work of our faculty and staff, whose top performance pays homage to Johns Hopkins’ enduring tradition of excellence.
We also congratulate our peers at all of the ranked schools. Like us, these institutions work incredibly hard to mold our nation’s future clinicians and researchers.
This year, four of our specialties were ranked #1, more than any other medical school, and two were ranked #2. Six specialties improved their ranking.
#1 Internal Medicine
#1 Anesthesiology (up from #3)
#1 Radiology (tied; up from #2)
#1 Surgery (up from #2)
#2 OBGYN (up from #3)
#2 Psychiatry (up from #5)
#4 Pediatrics (up from #5)
This year, Johns Hopkins was also ranked #1 in biomedical engineering, and in case you’ve forgotten, we remain tied for #2 in cell biology, tied for #3 in neuroscience, and tied for #6 in biological sciences. We earned those rankings last year; U.S. News & World Report examines those disciplines every four years.
In addition, congratulations to our colleagues across Johns Hopkins: the School of Nursing and the Bloomberg School of Public Health were both ranked #1 this year, while the School of Education was #7 and the Whiting School of Engineering was #17.
